Boston Dynamics Introduces Commercial Atlas Humanoid Robot
At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Boston Dynamics unveiled the production version of its Atlas humanoid robot, marking a milestone in robotics innovation. After over a decade of development, Atlas is now shifting from research demonstrations to real-world applications. Atlas is equipped to lift up to 110 pounds and boasts an impressive reach of 7.5 feet. It moves freely, interacts with its environment, and performs tasks efficiently—attributes that make it more effective than humans in certain industrial environments. Additionally, Atlas has dual swappable batteries, allowing it to continue tasks autonomously for roughly four hours before recharging.
AI-Powered Robotics Collaboration with Google DeepMind
To further enhance its capabilities, Boston Dynamics is collaborating with Google DeepMind, integrating DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics models into Atlas. These models help the robot better perceive its surroundings, tackle complex tasks, and function with a higher degree of autonomy. Carolina Parada, Senior Director of Robotics at Google DeepMind, shared their vision: “We aim to scale robotics safely and efficiently while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.”
