Belinda Carlisle, the iconic lead singer of The Go-Gos and the voice behind the hit song “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” recently celebrated her 67th birthday looking as radiant as ever.
The beloved ’80s superstar took to Instagram, sharing a stunning photo of herself in a tasteful straw hat and denim shirt. Accompanying the image, Carlisle wrote, “Another trip around the sun….. grateful to be here when so many of my friends and loved ones aren’t. So the word of today is GRATITUDE. Happy Sunday!”
Fans were quick to flood the comments with praise, admiring her timeless beauty and uplifting spirit. One wrote, “Happy Birthday to an icon and a total babe,” while another shared, “Happy birthday beautiful.”
A Humble Beginning to Pop Stardom
Carlisle’s journey into music was no smooth ride. Growing up in a dysfunctional family with an abusive and alcoholic stepfather, she found solace in pop music. During an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Carlisle opened up about her childhood aspirations, saying, “I lost myself in the pop music on the radio. Every day after school, I’d go to my best friend’s house. We’d listen and sing along. And I thought, ‘Maybe one day I want to be a singer.’ That was a fantasy I had as a little girl.”
Struggles and Triumphs
Like many in the limelight, Carlisle faced her share of personal trials. Her candid confession of battling substance abuse during her career remains an inspiring tale of resilience. In an interview with The Sunday Times, she admitted, “I thought, I’ll just drink wine, and I won’t do coke. I realised that in order to continue with my career, which was in the toilet, the most important thing was to get sober.”
She recounted a sobering moment playing in a little club in Northampton, England, where the audience comprised just 12 people, and her dressing room was a closet for cleaning supplies. “I thought, wow. I was able to turn things around, but I wouldn’t have been able to if I had been behaving the way I was before I got sober.”
A Healthier Life and Stronger Outlook
Now living a much healthier and balanced life, Carlisle shares her mornings with a spiritual routine that includes chanting for 40 minutes. “I get up at 3:30 am. Then I chant for 40 minutes. I love chanting. It’s not airy-fairy; it’s scientific,” she said.
As a wife to producer Morgan Mason and a proud mother to their 33-year-old son, James Duke, Belinda Carlisle continues to epitomize strength, grace, and gratitude. Her story serves as a beacon of hope, showing that no matter the challenges, reinvention and personal growth are always possible.
Here’s to many more birthdays and continued happiness for this pop sensation who has captured hearts for generations.
