Supermodel Barbara Palvin has shared her personal health journey, revealing her battles with painful periods and a private health struggle that led her to step away from the spotlight for several months. The 30-year-old Hungarian model opened up about undergoing surgery for endometriosis, a condition that affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age worldwide. Her candid story aims to raise awareness and encourage others to seek medical help for similar symptoms.
Years of Painful Symptoms Misunderstood
In a heartfelt post on social media, Barbara shared how she dealt with years of debilitating fatigue, severe pain, and heavy, irregular menstrual cycles. ‘For some years now I’ve been dealing with the difficulties that can come with my periods,’ she wrote. ‘Fatigue, severe pain, heavy and irregular flow, sleepless nights on the bathroom floor. I thought this was just how it works for me.’
Barbara explained that she had been seeing her gynecologist for regular check-ups, but even then, endometriosis went undiagnosed. ‘I thought if I had endometriosis, I would have known about it by now. But as it turns out, endometriosis can’t be diagnosed with general examinations,’ she shared. Finally, after consulting an endometriosis specialist, doctors recommended surgery. ‘Three months later, I got operated on,’ she said.
A New Chapter After Surgery
Following the surgery, Barbara experienced relief she never imagined. ‘Since then, I finally experienced a period that was easier, and now I know the difference,’ she explained. She added a message of encouragement to others: ‘If you suspect that you could have endometriosis, I encourage you to find out. Early diagnosis and treatment are very important to prevent long-term complications.’
The Victoria’s Secret and Armani runway star also disclosed that she took the past three months to rest and recover after the procedure. ‘That’s also why I took the time to rest and fully heal. I’m excited about this new chapter of my life and ready to get back to work,’ she said.
Shining a Spotlight on Endometriosis Awareness
Barbara joins a growing list of celebrities speaking out about endometriosis, seeking to spread awareness about this often-overlooked condition. Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, leading to pain and complications such as infertility. The condition is typically diagnosed through laparoscopic surgery, as Barbara herself underwent.
In her emotional post, Barbara also shared images of her recovery, including photos of compression leggings she wore to prevent blood clots and her abdomen post-surgery. Her honesty inspired reactions from fans and celebrities alike, with actress Charli Howard and model Inge Fonteyne leaving supportive messages underneath her post.
By opening up about her experience, Barbara Palvin hopes to encourage women to listen to their bodies and seek medical advice early, potentially preventing long-term issues. Her courageous story serves as a reminder that no one should have to live in silence when it comes to their health.
