
A 36-year-old man from China, Li Shuangyong, has completely transformed his life and body after taking on a grueling workout challenge inspired by the Japanese anime series, One Punch Man. The unique fitness journey lasted an extraordinary 1,000 days and consisted of a daily regimen of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10-kilometer run.
Inspired by Anime to Overcome Adversity
Mr. Shuangyong’s story begins during a difficult period of his life following the collapse of his fish farming business. Left deep in debt and reeling from a failed marriage, he stumbled upon the anime One Punch Man, where the protagonist, Saitama, undergoes an intense training routine that turns him into an unstoppable hero.
Determined to recover from his struggles, Shuangyong told Jiupai News, “I had to save myself. I could not keep living like that. It could not get any worse.” His decision to adopt Saitama’s training philosophy became a turning point, and he set out on his fitness mission, beginning in August 2021 with nothing more than inexpensive running shoes and a diet of eggs and instant noodles.
Building Strength, Community, and Hope
Throughout the journey, Shuangyong’s efforts gained widespread attention as he filmed and shared daily training videos online, inspiring followers across China and beyond. Fans in Taiwan even joined him virtually during live-streamed runs. This growing support led to sponsorships, including new running shoes and nutritional supplements from fans and companies.
By July 19, 2025, Shuangyong completed the intense regimen, amassing over 20,000 kilometers and completing hundreds of thousands of repetitions of exercises. To mark his incredible achievement, he paid homage to One Punch Man by shaving his head and dressing as Saitama. Even the creator of the popular manga series congratulated Shuangyong on his remarkable dedication, stating, “Your willpower is incredible! Congratulations.”
From Challenge to World Record
With his life back on track, Shuangyong is now pursuing an even more ambitious goal: running a marathon every day for an entire year in hopes of earning a Guinness World Record. His incredible journey serves as an inspiration, emphasizing resilience, determination, and the power of hope.
