Australia is hosting Exercise Talisman Sabre, the largest war fighting drills in the country’s history. This joint exercise with the U.S. involves over 35,000 military personnel from 19 nations. Countries like Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom are among the participants. Talisman Sabre will also include activities in Papua New Guinea for the first time. Chinese spy ships have monitored past exercises and are expected to do so in the current drill, prompting adjustments in operations. The drills coincide with Australian Prime Minister’s visit to China and affirm the defense alliance with the United States.
