Acclaimed actress Glenn Close is set to deliver a spine-chilling performance in the upcoming Channel 4 drama, ‘Maud.’ The six-part series is being developed by Playground and Sony Pictures Television, based on the bestselling short story collections by Swedish crime author Helene Tursten: ‘An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good’ and ‘An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed.’
About the Series
Close, an eight-time Oscar nominee, stars as Maud Oldcastle, a sharp-witted and ruthless older woman on a quest to reclaim her freedom after years of caring for her sister. Described as hilariously brusque, cantankerous, and deeply layered, Maud is also hiding a dark secret: she’s a killer with a tortured past. As she navigates a world dominated by youth, a suspicious detective begins unraveling her carefully constructed facade.
The drama is written by Nina Raine and Moses Raine, the acclaimed playwrights behind “Donkey Heart.” According to Close, “Maud is not like any character I have played before. I am honored to work with such an extraordinary team to bring this story to life.” Filming is set to begin in London later this year.
Why ‘Maud’ is One to Watch
The show promises a bold, character-driven narrative that explores modern themes with razor-sharp wit and complexity. Channel 4’s acting head of drama, Gwawr Lloyd, described it as “a deliciously dark and daring drama.” With Glenn Close at the helm and a script that delves into the psychological intricacies of its lead character, ‘Maud’ is sure to capture audiences worldwide.
