Ripple CTO Tests New Hub Server for Improved XRP Ledger Reliability
Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), David Schwartz, is spearheading a breakthrough improvement to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) with the development of a new “hub server.” Designed to enhance the blockchain’s reliability, this hub server has recently completed testing in a controlled environment and is nearing production readiness.
The pioneering system successfully handled 11,000 requests per second from 173 peers during tests. Despite minor hiccups, such as a small spike in latency and a bandwidth monitoring glitch, these were unrelated to the server itself and are being proactively addressed by Schwartz and his team. He remarked on the progress via Twitter, highlighting the network’s exceptional performance over the past 24 hours.
Why XRP Ledger Needs This Upgrade
Current challenges facing XRP Ledger include concerns over its security and decentralization. A recent blockchain report by Kaiko ranked XRPL last among 15 blockchains for security, scoring 41/100. Notable issues include a past hack, a relatively low number of validators, and a low Nakamoto coefficient, which indicates the number of entities required to collude in compromising the network.
Schwartz envisions the new hub server as a critical addition to address some of these weaknesses. By providing reserved connections for validators, hubs, and application servers, the hub server could lay the groundwork for greater reliability and robustness, strengthening XRPL’s role as foundational financial infrastructure in the future.
Future Outlook for XRP Ledger
Despite challenges, Ripple remains optimistic about XRPL’s potential. Enhancements like better programmability, compliance tools, and institutional liquidity are on the horizon. Positioning itself as a public and permissionless blockchain, XRPL also offers optional features for regulated use, making it a viable option for global financial systems.
