Internationally acclaimed distribution company, Dogwoof, has announced its acquisition of the global sales rights for the highly anticipated documentary film, ‘The Tale of Silyan.’ Directed by Tamara Kotevska, best known for her work on the double Oscar-nominated documentary ‘Honeyland,’ this new cinematic gem is set to make its world premiere at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, followed by its North American debut at the Toronto Film Festival.
An Enchanting Storyline with a Timeless Lesson
‘The Tale of Silyan’ is a touching tale about the bond between a Macedonian farmer, Nikola, and an injured white stork, Silyan, that he rescues from a landfill site. Despite his personal isolation, Nikola forms a unique and heartwarming connection with the bird, allowing both human and animal to find solace in each other’s company. With its real-life fairy-tale tone, the film sheds light on themes of companionship, resilience, and humanity’s relationship with nature.
Director Tamara Kotevska described her vision for the film, explaining: “The white storks serve as a perfect reflection of humanity. The journey we captured offers a profound warning about the path we are collectively heading toward.”
A Star Team Behind the Scenes
The esteemed production house Concordia Studio, which fully financed the project in early 2024, once again demonstrates its commitment to bold filmmaking. The documentary is produced by a talented team, including Kotevska herself, alongside Jordanco Petkovski, Anna Hashmi, and Jean Dakar. Executive producers include Davis Guggenheim, Laurene Powell Jobs, and Lizzie Fox.
The creative players responsible for bringing the story to life include cinematographer Jean Dakar, editor Martin Ivanov, and composers Joe Wilson and Davies Hun Oukpark, whose score promises to add another layer of emotional resonance to the film.
From the Success of ‘Honeyland’ to a New Cinematic Experience
Dogwoof previously collaborated with Kotevska on ‘Honeyland,’ a film that secured three prizes at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and received two Academy Award nominations—an achievement that heralded her as a standout voice in documentary storytelling. Dogwoof’s Chief Content Officer, Oli Harbottle, commended the director’s vision: “Tamara has once again delivered a stunning piece of cinema—a magical docu-fable that is sure to captivate audiences worldwide.”
UTA Independent Film Group is managing North American and global rights for the film, with Dogwoof spearheading international sales. With such a strong lineup of creative collaborators and supporters, ‘The Tale of Silyan’ promises to leave a lasting impression on viewers.
