Scone is gearing up for an action-packed day of horse racing, with trainer Brett Cavanough bringing a strong lineup of contenders to his home track. Leading the pack is the impressive three-time winner, Saratoga Power, set to compete in the Coolmore Country Boosted Benchmark 66 Handicap. Known for his formidable record, Saratoga Power trialed exceptionally well ahead of this race and remains a favorite to win.
Saratoga Power’s Promising Form
In preparation for this event, Saratoga Power delivered a strong performance on the polytrack at the Gold Coast, followed by a third-place finish on the course proper. Recently, he showcased his dominance in a three-horse trial at Scone, earning a decisive victory. Trainer Brett Cavanough expressed confidence in his prized horse’s ability to hold its form, stating, “He’s a horse with a good record, and he did trial well leading into this event.” Partnered by jockey Mitchell Bell, Saratoga Power will be a tough competitor to beat.
Nation Changing Joins the Race
Also generating buzz is Nation Changing, trained by Melanie O’Gorman. This unbeaten Cosmic Force galloper has already secured two notable wins at Scone and Armidale. With three trials under his belt, Nation Changing is ready to resume competition in the same race as Saratoga Power. “He has won both his starts impressively, and I really want to step him up to Highway grade,” shared O’Gorman. Jockey Mikayla Weir, who secured a victory with the horse in its second start, will retain her partnership in this highly anticipated race.
Other Key Contenders to Watch
Cavanough’s team boasts a host of other talented runners at Scone. Bell and Cavanough will kick off the day with Bravalatante in the Arrowfield Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1100m), joined by stablemate By Linda, ridden by Braith Nock. Bell is also set to ride notable horses including Speed Of Gold in the Scone Chamber Of Commerce Maiden Plate (900m), Xerxes in the CRT Scone Rural Supplies Maiden Handicap (1300m), and Echelon in the One Agency Scone Class 1 Handicap (1200m).
Meanwhile, Nock will take the reins of Cresta Run in the Class 1 Handicap alongside Echelon. Additionally, he will partner with Cavanough’s New Pharoah, competing in the Darley Benchmark 66 Handicap (1300m). Though starting from a challenging outside position, New Pharoah is expected to deliver a strong showing.
