Television presenter Josie Gibson has shared her personal battle with a breast cancer scare, shedding light on the importance of early detection and health awareness. The This Morning host revealed how a concerning lump led her to take swift action and make changes to her life.
A Frightening Discovery
In 2023, Gibson, who rose to fame as a contestant on the 2010 season of Big Brother, found herself facing a worrying health issue. The 40-year-old noticed a lump “protruding” from her left breast and observed changes in its shape. Alarmed by the discovery, she sought immediate medical advice.
Speaking to The Sun, Gibson recounted, “I had a big lump underneath my left boob, and I was getting really worried about it. You could actually see it protruding, and the breast had changed shape, so I was frightened.” After a consultation with her doctor, it was revealed that the lump was linked to her breast implant. She subsequently made the decision to have the implant removed, a choice she called “one of the best things I’ve done.”
Breast Implants and Cancer Concerns
Gibson previously underwent breast enhancement surgery in 2013, increasing her cup size from a B to a DD. Following the removal of the implants, she shared that she now has peace of mind and encourages others to prioritize their health and wellness.
Advocacy and Raising Awareness
The mother-of-one has turned her experience into a positive platform for advocacy. Partnering with Tombola Bingo and the charity Breast Cancer Now, Gibson is promoting their “Eyes Down, Check Up” initiative. She emphasized the importance of making breast cancer awareness an ongoing conversation, saying, “We only ever talk about breast cancer when something bad happens. Let’s make it part of the conversation.”
Adjusting to Life Changes
Currently, Gibson resides in a caravan while her £1 million property near Bath undergoes renovations, a process she admits has been stressful. Jokingly, she shared, “Basically, I’ve just made my life a lot more stressful. Put it this way, I’ve been dying my hair.”
Despite the challenges, Gibson retains a positive outlook, using her platform to inspire others and raise awareness about breast cancer. Her story serves as a reminder of the importance of health vigilance and self-care.
