The Oxford Growth Commission recently completed a whirlwind tour of South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse to spotlight initiatives fueling the region’s economic growth. This key visit emphasized the transformative projects shaping Oxfordshire’s future.
Highlighting Milton Park: A Hub for Innovation
The tour began at Milton Park, a major driver of the local economy and recognized as the country’s largest single-ownership business park. Part of the Science Vale, Milton Park benefits from a Local Development Order, offering streamlined planning processes that have supported over a decade of job creation and economic progress.
Suzanne Malcolm, Deputy Chief Executive at South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils, expressed her enthusiasm: “I was delighted to welcome Neale Coleman [Chair of the Oxford Growth Commission] and his team to our districts and to showcase a snapshot of the exciting projects we have in progress supporting sustainable economic growth across Oxfordshire and beyond.”
Site Visits Showcasing Regeneration and Sustainability
The delegation also visited other critical development sites, including Berinsfield, Dalton Barracks, and Didcot. These areas, designated as Garden Village or Town sites, have benefited from significant government investment aimed at advancing regeneration and infrastructure projects.
Another highlight of the tour was Abingdon and Witney College’s Net Zero Skills Hub and Advanced Skills Centre. This facility offers specialized training programs designed to equip the workforce with skills essential for supporting the region’s sustainable growth.
The Role of the Oxford Growth Commission
Established by the UK government in May, the Oxford Growth Commission plays a pivotal role in advising on infrastructure, housing, and employment strategies. Their goal is to unlock the region’s economic potential and strengthen its standing as a hub for innovation and development.
These efforts align with the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic expansion while ensuring that Oxfordshire remains a competitive force in the global market.
