
Dozens of firefighters tackled a blaze in southwest London, forcing a popular dining street to be cordoned off. The London Fire Brigade received multiple calls about a fire in a shop with flats upstairs on York Street in Twickenham. The fire broke out near a local event attended by hundreds.
Eight fire engines and crews responded, and two 32m ladders were set up to support firefighting operations. York Street remains closed between Arragon Road and the A310 and A305 junctions. A resident described the chaos caused by the road closure and the powerful smell of smoke.
York Street, located in Twickenham near York House Gardens, is home to various eateries and pubs. Despite the fire being under control, crews will remain on the scene as the investigation continues.
