The medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has declared the cholera outbreak in Sudan as ‘beyond urgent’. At least 40 deaths in the last week and over 99,700 suspected cases demonstrate a critical situation worsened by the country’s civil war and contaminated water sources. With heavy rains exacerbating the spread of the disease, urgent international healthcare, clean water, and sanitation interventions are imperative to prevent further casualties. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has raised concerns about the alarming cholera rates in conflict-affected states like Sudan, emphasizing the need for immediate action and resources to combat the outbreak.
