In a tragic incident near Nannilam, Tiruvarur district, four youths drowned in the Puthaaru river due to strong currents. The victims were identified as S Manikandan, Hariharan, A Manivel, and P Jayakumar. They were caught in the river while bathing and couldn’t be rescued in time. The increased water level from the Mettur dam’s outflow and recent rains intensified the currents. Safety precautions and awareness are crucial when near water bodies during such times.
