The inaugural freight train to reach Kashmir on a Saturday morning carried 1,400 tonnes of cement, showcasing the strength of Chenab Bridge and Anji Bridge. The faster bulk movement of supplies into Kashmir will significantly improve with this milestone. Originating from Rupnagar in Punjab, the goods train traveled approximately 600 km in under 18 hours, powered by an electric WAG-9 locomotive. This achievement not only reflects the advancement in India’s railway infrastructure but also heralds crucial cement transportation for Valley’s infrastructure projects. The commencement of operations at the Anantnag goods shed is expected to bring about more effective supply chains, reduced transportation costs, and a boost in industrial activities for the Valley.
