Former Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, underlines Nigeria’s difficulty in progressing socially and economically due to considerable female illiteracy rates, particularly in the North. During his keynote speech at WIMBIZ’s 23rd Women in Business Management and Public Service conference, he pointed out that half of Nigeria’s population is impacted by illiteracy, complicating the country’s development.
Osinbajo implored the elite to promote positive change, by providing a voice for the less privileged and pushing for better social welfare, healthcare, and education. The elite, he stressed, carry the weight of nationwide moral, economic, and political direction, either uplifting or dragging down their nation.
Furthermore, the former Vice President criticized the trend among business owners to maintain a pretense of success, often straining their businesses financially. He attributes this issue in part to the influence of social media and the pressure to match the unexplained wealth showcased by preexisting rich entrepreneurs. This custom, he observed, often results in the squandering of potential business investments for the sake of appearances.
