Emma Niblett, 36, and her husband Dan, 40, felt trapped in a repetitive cycle in the UK and sought more fulfilling family experiences. To break free, they rented out their home and traveled to Bali in August 2024. For the past three months, their sons, Noah, eight, and Isaac, five, have been learning in a pop-up school, gaining insights into local culture and citizenship.
The family has explored Sydney, Australia, and various parts of Bali, with future plans to visit New Zealand and Japan during Christmas. They will continue their world schooling while traveling in Vietnam and Borneo.
Emma and Dan work remotely to sustain their travels, finding that their lifestyle is significantly more cost-effective. Emma, a technology head from Leeds, West Yorkshire, reports their expenses are about 20% of what they were in the UK, allowing them to enjoy enriching experiences without financial strain. For instance, an exciting day in Bali costs around £40-£50, including three meals, compared to £100-£150 for outings in the UK.
