The renowned studio behind Fallout is set to adapt another iconic video game, Wolfenstein, known for its intense gaming experience.
After the success of their first season with the Fallout series, Amazon MGM Studios is stepping into the world of Wolfenstein. Interestingly, the storyline of this franchise mirrors that of Amazon’s popular TV series, The Man in the High Castle.
According to a report from Variety, Amazon will commence the adaptation of the classic video game Wolfenstein. Limited details are available about the show’s plot, except for the tagline, ‘The story of killing Nazis is evergreen.’
The series will be led by showrunner Patrick Somerville, famous for creating Maniac for Netflix and Station Eleven for HBO Max. Jerk Gustafsson, an executive producer at MachineGames, the developers of the Wolfenstein games, will also play a crucial role in the production as an executive producer.
Wolfenstein has a long history as one of the pioneering video game franchises. Its inception dates back to 1981 with Castle Wolfenstein, a groundbreaking stealth game for its time. The reboot of the series, Wolfenstein 3D, was developed by id Software, the company that later acquired the franchise rights.
In 2010, Bethesda, the publisher, acquired id Software, leading to the production of a new game in the Wolfenstein series by MachineGames. This game, Wolfenstein: The New Order, transformed the franchise’s narrative from World War II to an alternate reality where the Nazis emerged victorious. The reboot’s protagonist, William ‘B.J.’ Blazkowicz, the same American soldier from the original Wolfenstein 3D, now fights to overcome the Nazi regime after waking up from a coma in 1960.
Several games were released in this revised Wolfenstein timeline, such as Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot.
No specific details have been revealed regarding the premiere date or cast for the upcoming Wolfenstein series. Amazon MGM Studios is yet to provide further information on the show.
