Many of our former students have greatly enhanced the wellbeing and prosperity of our local community and beyond. The Derry Journal’s feature supplement dedicated to our Union celebrates this impact, allowing our fellow alumni and the broader Derry community to explore our history and current activities.
Founded in 1879, St Columb’s College has educated over 25,000 boys, many of whom pursue higher education or enter society and excel in various fields such as medicine, law, media, sports, the arts, and religion, both in Derry and internationally. Our Past Pupils Union, established in 1929, has maintained engagement with alumni through numerous activities.
While many alumni find opportunities abroad, which benefits those locations, it underscores Derry’s need for increased prospects. We reflect on notable alumni, such as Dr. David Stewart, who have positively impacted our local community. It’s our hope that Derry fosters the environment needed for former students to return and contribute with their diverse experiences.
Annual events like dinners, golf days, and reunions provide a cherished opportunity to reconnect and reminisce, keeping the memories of those we’ve lost alive. As we near our 100th anniversary, we invite all past pupils to our dinner on November 8 and encourage community engagement through our revamped website.
